I have attended more than 500 weddings over 22 years. I have been privy to couples’ most intimate moments as they share their hopes for their relationship and fears that arise before the ceremony, and as they work through the inevitable issues that come up afterward. Difficulties are not a sign of a bad marriage or a looming breakup. Love is not something we need to find, accumulate, or protect. It is something that we inherently possess, and the only way to receive it fully is to give it away. We have to throw away our misconceptions of what relationships are in order to embrace what they can be.
