I grew up with Rand McNally maps and do think there are still advantages to “old-fashioned” maps compared to say Google Maps (which I do use as well, of course). For example, it’s way easier to see highway exit numbers, tell which highways are controlled-access or toll roads, understand the road hierarchy, estimate distances by eye, and see many layers of detail at once (street names, places of interest, parks, city boundaries, topology)., I did check to make sure this was truly updated, not only with new roads, but also with the other details like the little facts on the side (e.g. Huntsville now formally being the largest city in Alabama, which only happened in the last couple years)., A few negatives:, – This atlas claims to cover the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, but the Mexico section is a joke – just one high-level map spanning two pages, and with only an inset for Mexico City., – At the finer detail level, there are some few liberties taken with the road trajectories. Looking at my home city, the deviation is enough that e.g. a university is marked on the wrong side of a medium-sized road (because the road is drawn as a straight line instead of curving as it does in reality). This isn’t a huge deal I doubt anyone is using this atlas to navigate the last few turns to their destination – most cars presumably can be connected to GPS now for that., – Why is the cover of a *road* atlas a photo of a natural landscape featuring boats?

We have a gps but like looking at the overview of a map and this one always was the best in reputation. It is perfect for our driving trip this spring!

Larger than I thought in my mind. Easy to read with larger print which is very helpful. Planning a road trip and even though Map Quest is what I use most of the time…I can’t always see what other towns and sites are available. This is going to be very useful.

If you are looking for a travel planning tool, this is it!! It is very large, easy to read print – suggest using it on a table. My only concern is trying to use it while driving – it is very large!! I knew that and kept it anyway because I enjoy the larger format/printing.
