Forced to do community service as a result of a fight between them, they boys are thrown together, and over the course of the summer they grow closer. As their relationship turns romantic, Travis’s powers intensify, making him the target of a governmental agency that seeks to capture and study him. When Travis learns a secret JJ has been keeping from him, he loses it and goes on a rampage, only stopping when soldiers show up and open fire on him. Close to death, he teleports away and then is guided to a cave in the American Southwest. There he learns truths about himself and his powers that forever change him.
