A New York Times bestseller and enduring classic, All About Love is the acclaimed first volume in feminist icon bell hooks’ “Love Song to the Nation” trilogy. All About Love reveals what causes a polarized society, and how to heal the divisions that cause suffering. Here is the truth about love, and inspiration to help us instill caring, compassion, and strength in our homes, schools, and workplaces. “The word ‘love’ is most often defined as a noun, yet we would all love better if we used it as a verb,” writes bell hooks as she comes out fighting and on fire in All About Love. Here, at her most provocative and intensely personal, renowned scholar, cultural critic and feminist bell hooks offers a proactive new ethic for a society bereft with lovelessness–not the lack of romance, but the lack of care, compassion, and unity. People are divided, she declares, by society’s failure to provide a model for learning to love. As bell hooks uses her incisive mind to explore the question “What is love?” her answers strike at both the mind and heart. Razing the cultural paradigm that the ideal love is infused with sex and desire, she provides a new path to love that is sacred, redemptive, and healing for individuals and for a nation. The Utne Reader declared bell hooks one of the “100 Visionaries Who Can Change Your Life.” All About Love is a powerful, timely affirmation of just how profoundly her revelations can change hearts and minds for the better.

this is classic book about the art of loving, NOT about falling in love…she presents her own research, personal and scholarly…its a book that I open up and read what my eyes fall upon, best ways for me to remember, Im not interested in falling love but in the practice of art of loving…I’m not going into details.. get the book and read.

I’m glad I finally read this book. Strangely, I first heard reference to it in a song and years later saw a recommendation for the book online. I decided to borrow the book from the library. About two chapters in I knew I needed to buy this book! I liked it so much, I recommended it to a friend and keep it out on display in my living room. I gave the book 4 out of 5 stars because I felt some parts in the middle were repetitive, but overall this is a fantastic book. There were things I already knew or had thought about, but reading through Bell Hook’s thoughts on the matter helped me put things into perspective. What really helped this book resonate with me is that I took my time reading over the course of several weeks. I’d read a chapter and then do a self deep dive over what I read and what it all meant. This is a pretty easy read and I felt if I read it all in one or two sittings I would miss alot of the points she was trying to get across. Though this book is mostly told from the female perspective, I recommend this book to anyone both male and female at any stage in your love life. There are some good chapters that dive a bit into the male mind, so I believe the guys will gain some insight into what love means for them. However, if I’m not mistaken, I believe Hooks has written another book that caters more toward men on this subject.
